After multiple delays in the last two years, The New Mutants is finally going to release on August 28, 2020, in the United States. However, it seems like the UK still needs to wait for a few more days for watching the movie as the release has been shifted to a new date yet again. The movie has been rescheduled to release on September 4, 2020, in more than 300 locations in the UK. This might be done in order to give enough screens to Christopher Nolan’s film, ‘Tenet’, and to avoid a clash at the box office as well, which is scheduled to release on August 26 this year. The movie was initially slated to release on April 13, 2018, and then suffered delays many times before it was scheduled for an April 2020 release. However, even that didn’t work out because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Hence the makers of the movie need their fingers crossed so as to not delay the film anymore.
The movie casts a group of mutants— Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair or Wolfsbane, who is playing the role of a Scottish mutant, with the ability to transform himself into a wolf; Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin, playing the role of Magik, a Russian mutant having sorcery powers; Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie or Cannonball, cast as an American mutant having the power to propel himself into air; Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar or Mirage, playing the role of a Native American mutant having the ability to create illusions; and Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa, playing the part of Sunspot, a Brazilian mutant with the power to manipulate solar energy. The movie also casts Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes, the mentor to the group.
The New Mutants Plot
The American horror superhero film, inspired by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod’s Marvel Comics team bearing the same name, ‘The New Mutants’ revolves around five young mutants, who, upon discovering their special powers, rebel in order to escape their past ill-deeds and free themselves, while held in a secret institution against their own will to supposedly provide treatment for curing the dangers involved in their powers. The movie is supposed to be the final installment of the X-Men film franchise.
Produced by Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Karen Rosenfelt, under the production house of 20th Century Studios, Marvel Entertainment, Sunswept Entertainment and Genre Films, the movie was earlier pitched for the first in the trilogy, but the plan was later dropped because of the Marvel Studio, gaining domination over the characters in the movies. Directed by Josh Boone, the film is going to another impressive centerpiece for the 20th Century Fox franchise, after the R-rated tandem of Deadpool and Logan received big numbers at the box office, critical appreciation, and an Oscar Nomination as much as the latter one is concerned.
