The DC Extended Universe is on the cusp of a reboot, with The Flash serving as the catalyst. The upcoming film is generating buzz by premiering at CinemaCon 2023, a convention that brings together film industry professionals and exhibitors to showcase new footage, sizzle-reels, and trailers. The convention will take place at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas from April 24 to April 27, and The Flash will be the first project to screen, along with a pre-screening presentation featuring upcoming DC films. This move may be an effort to generate more buzz about the project, considering the June 16 release date.
The film follows Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, as he travels back in time to prevent his mother’s murder, trapping him in an alternate reality without metahumans. Directed by Andy Muschietti and written by Christina Hodson, The Flash also stars Michael Shannon as General Zod, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Michael Keaton, reprising his role as Batman for the first time since 1992’s Batman Returns. The anticipation surrounding The Flash has already been high, thanks to its first trailer during the recent Super Bowl.
However, The Flash has not been without its challenges. The film has undergone multiple director changes and has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Miller has been involved in a series of problematic legal troubles, including a burglary case and assault allegations. However, Miller eventually issued an apology for their behavior, and post-production on The Flash continued as planned. Following their apology, Miller reportedly won back the studio executives, and DC co-chairman James Gunn described the film as “f–king amazing” and “one of the best superhero movies I’ve ever seen”.
Audiences will have the opportunity to judge The Flash for themselves when it is released by Warner Bros. on June 16, 2023. With its star-studded cast and high stakes plot, The Flash is expected to be a key player in the DC Extended Universe’s reboot and could potentially set the stage for the next chapter in the series.
