A Forgotten DC Villain Gets a Second Chance

Mike Flanagan, a horror expert, revealed in a recent podcast that he had met with Warner Bros. to discuss a potential DC movie project, with Clayface being his top priority. Clayface, a Batman villain, has a complex and convoluted history, but the most well-known version is Basil Karlo, a former actor turned shapeshifting monster. Despite the DCU’s struggles in the past, Flanagan’s pitch should be reconsidered by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are building a new DC cinematic universe that incorporates horror elements.

The DCU is currently divided into two chapters, with the first, “Gods and Monsters,” focusing on introducing new versions of beloved heroes and exploring horror-based characters. Gunn has already announced a Creature Commandos animated series and a Swamp Thing movie, both of which will feature horror elements. There is certainly room for a new DC movie that explores the body horror of Clayface. Flanagan’s expertise in horror would be a perfect fit for the project, as he has a proven track record of adapting literary works into successful live-action productions.

Flanagan’s Clayface movie would not only be a great fit for the DCU but also offer a unique and terrifying take on the character. With his experience in adapting Stephen King’s works, such as Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game, Flanagan would bring a depth and complexity to the character that would make the movie a must-see for horror fans. The DCU is in desperate need of a fresh take on a beloved villain, and Flanagan’s Clayface movie would be the perfect way to do just that.
