The first three episodes of Apple TV+’s latest sci-fi series, Constellation, have left viewers with more questions than answers, and that’s exactly what makes it so enticing. The show, which premiered on February 21, 2024, follows the journey of astronaut Jo Ericsson, played by Noomi Rapace, as she returns to Earth after a catastrophic mission in space and discovers that her reality has been altered. The story is woven together from two timelines, one of which is shrouded in mystery, and the other, set five weeks before the disaster, takes place on the International Space Station (ISS).

As Jo navigates her new surroundings, she struggles to connect with her daughter Alice, who seems to be harboring dark secrets. The show’s creators, Peter Harness and Michelle MacLaren, masterfully craft an atmosphere of unease, as Jo begins to experience strange and unexplainable events aboard the ISS. The show’s reliance on science fiction tropes is expertly balanced with real-world concerns, making it a compelling and thought-provoking watch.

One of the standout aspects of Constellation is its exploration of parallel realities. The show hints at the possibility of multiple parallel universes, where events unfold differently, and characters’ identities are altered. This concept is expertly woven throughout the narrative, leaving viewers to ponder the possibility of multiple realities existing simultaneously.

Rapace’s performance as Jo Ericsson is particularly noteworthy, as she brings depth and nuance to the character’s struggles with her altered reality. The supporting cast, including Clare-Hope Ashitey, Jonathan Banks, and James D’Arcy, also deliver strong performances, adding depth and complexity to the story.

While the show’s more dialogue-driven personal scenes can feel somewhat stilted and detached, the overall narrative is engaging and thought-provoking. As the story continues to unfold, it’s clear that Constellation is a show that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats, guessing and theorizing about the mysteries that lie ahead.

For now, the show’s creators are taking their time to build the foundation of the story, and it’s clear that they’re intent on creating a complex and intricate narrative. With each passing episode, the stakes are raised, and the possibilities seem endless. If you’re a fan of science fiction and thrillers, Constellation is definitely worth checking out.
