The Unfrosted Battle for Breakfast Supremacy

A Still From Jerry Seinfeld's new film, Unfrosted. (Via IMDB)

Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story”, is a colorful and silly comedy that delves into the infamous feud between Kellogg’s and Post, two cereal giants competing to revolutionize the breakfast terrain. The film takes place in 1963, Battle Creek, Michigan, where the two companies are in a heated battle to create a cake-like pastry that would change the way people start their day. The result is a war that gets out of control, with explosive consequences and chaotic corporate ambition.

Seinfeld has assembled a star-studded ensemble cast, featuring Oscar-nominee Melissa McCarthy and Emmy-nominee Hugh Grant, alongside comedy icons like Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, and Max Greenfield. The film’s tone is reinforced throughout the trailer, with a focus on goofy humor and silly antics. Despite the absurdity of the story, Seinfeld has insisted that there is some truth to the fictionalized tale, which is inspired by the real-life battle between Post’s Country Squares and Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts.

The film’s script was penned by Seinfeld, alongside Spike Feresten, Andy Robin, and Barry Marder, all of whom worked on the animated Bee Movie in 2007. Seinfeld’s return to feature filmmaking after Bee Movie is a notable one, marking his first live-action film since 2007. With Netflix as his partner, Seinfeld has become a regular presence on the streaming platform, with his sitcom Seinfeld, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and multiple specials, including the 23 Hours to Kill special that inspired the Pop-Tart joke shared in the film.

“Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” will be released on Netflix on May 3, 2024, featuring a runtime of 93 minutes and a main genre of comedy. The film’s colorful and silly tone promises a hilarious ride, with a talented cast of comedians and actors bringing the story to life. With its blend of humor and satire, “Unfrosted” is sure to delight audiences and provide a fresh take on the breakfast terrain.
