Dylan Mulvaney, known for her sizable following on TikTok, recently shared her aspirations to portray Elle Woods in a trans-focused adaptation of the iconic romantic comedy, “Legally Blonde.”
In an interview with IMDb, Mulvaney discussed her vision for a trans take on the beloved character, envisioning a cast that includes trans actors in key roles like Emmett and Paulette. Mulvaney emphasized the transformative power of incorporating trans individuals into established narratives, suggesting it can enhance the story’s impact without significant alterations to the script.
The original “Legally Blonde,” released in 2001, has achieved cult status over the years, following the journey of Elle Woods, played by Reese Witherspoon, as she navigates Harvard Law School and challenges stereotypes about blondes.
While Mulvaney’s idea for a trans adaptation is intriguing, fans are eagerly anticipating the long-awaited third installment in the franchise, which has been in development since 2018.
Witherspoon is set to reprise her role as Elle and produce the film, with Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor penning the script. Kaling has teased Elle’s evolution in her 40s and promised to retain fan-favorite elements from the original.
Moreover, MGM’s Motion Picture Group President Pamela Abdy confirmed plans to introduce Elle’s daughter in the upcoming sequel, indicating a new chapter in Elle’s life.
As “Legally Blonde” continues to expand its universe, including a successful Broadway musical adaptation, Mulvaney’s dream of portraying Elle Woods may eventually come true, offering a fresh perspective on the beloved character’s journey.
