The sixth episode of the Disney+ series Ahsoka has a subtle but powerful homage to Kanan Jarrus, a beloved character from Star Wars Rebels, in a photo tribute on Hera’s dashboard. This fleeting image is the only live-action appearance of Kanan, due to his tragic death in the animated series. However, his absence is felt throughout Ahsoka, as his legacy is referenced multiple times, demonstrating the significant impact he had on the characters.

Ahsoka has a strong connection to Star Wars Rebels, with characters like Hera, Sabine, Thrawn, and Ezra playing important roles. The title character herself, Ahsoka Tano, was a key figure in both series. The live-action epilogue scene in Ahsoka is a direct homage to the animated series’ epilogue, further highlighting the interconnectedness of the two shows.

Kanan Jarrus, a former Jedi padawan, played a crucial role in Star Wars Rebels. He was a leader on the Ghost crew, helping to teach Ezra the ways of the Jedi and ultimately sacrificing himself to save his teammates. His character arc was marked by self-doubt, but he ultimately found redemption in his death.

Ahsoka references Kanan’s character in multiple episodes, including mentions of his name and his relationship with Hera and Ezra. In one scene, Jacen, Kanan’s son, is able to hear lightsabers that others cannot, hinting at his connection to his father. In another, Huyang mentions Kanan’s name while discussing Jacen’s Force abilities.

The image of Kanan on Hera’s dashboard serves as a reminder of his importance in the lives of those around him. It shows that even though Kanan is gone, his memory is still cherished by his loved ones. The scene also highlights Hera’s determination to believe that Zeb, another member of the Ghost crew, is still alive, hinting at the reason behind her rebellion.

Ahsoka’s subtle references to Kanan are a testament to the lasting impact he had on the characters and the Star Wars universe. The show’s creator, Dave Filoni, has stated that Kanan’s character was inspired by his own experiences and struggles, making his absence in Ahsoka all the more poignant. Despite his limited screen time, Kanan Jarrus remains a beloved character in the Star Wars universe, and his legacy is sure to continue inspiring new generations of fans.
