Zack Snyder, the acclaimed director behind the Rebel Moon franchise, has big plans for the space opera series beyond the upcoming sequel, Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver. In an interview with Collider, Snyder hinted at the possibility of a third Rebel Moon film, suggesting that its creation largely depends on the audience’s response to the first two installments. Snyder humorously noted that if viewers give enough “double thumbs up” on Netflix’s rating system, it might be enough to greenlight Part Three.
Snyder has been teasing the director’s cuts of both Part One – A Child of Fire and The Scargiver, stating they are on schedule for a summer release, pending rating confirmation. He expressed that the director’s cuts, which offer him more creative freedom, are his favorite aspect of the Rebel Moon deal with Netflix. These versions are expected to be released sometime in August, with Snyder currently negotiating with the MPAA to secure an R rating.
If a third film is made, it would contribute to Snyder’s broader vision of expanding Rebel Moon into a full-fledged franchise, which already includes plans for a comic book, an animated short, and a video game. Snyder has previously hinted at creating more than two Rebel Moon movies, and there are reports of a script for a third installment already in the works. However, as of now, The Scargiver is the only confirmed sequel.
Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver continues the storyline from A Child of Fire, with Sofia Boutella reprising her role as Kora. The sequel promises to deliver a more emotional and intense experience, as Kora and her fellow survivors defend their new world, Veldt, against the oppressive forces of the Motherworld. The Scargiver had a one-week theatrical release in select U.S. cinemas on April 12 and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting April 19.
The future of the Rebel Moon franchise largely depends on the performance of The Scargiver. While A Child of Fire received negative critical reviews for its character depth and focus on worldbuilding, it became a hit on Netflix. The success of The Scargiver could pave the way for a third installment and further expansion of the Rebel Moon universe.
Starring Sofia Boutella, Ed Skrein, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, and Anthony Hopkins, The Scargiver continues the epic saga, with Snyder promising an emotional rollercoaster for fans. As the franchise grows, Snyder remains hopeful that audience support will allow him to bring his complete vision for Rebel Moon to life.
