The White Walkers, also known as the Children of the Forest, are a group of frozen-looking enemies who appear to be intent on destroying the world of men. They come from the far North, deep beyond The Wall, and are led by the Night King, who has the power to turn human infants into White Walkers and control an ice zombie horde known as “wights.” The White Walkers’ origins date back thousands of years, when they were created by the Children of the Forest thousands of years ago as a form of protection against the First Men who were cutting down their sacred trees and slaughtering their tribe. However, the White Walkers rebelled and began making war on the living indiscriminately.
The White Walkers have a complex history, which includes their creation by the Children of the Forest and their subsequent rebellion against the First Men. They are also believed to worship a god called the Great Other, who is the enemy of the Lord of Light.
Despite their terrifying abilities, the White Walkers can be killed with blades made from dragonglass or Valyrian steel, and they are vulnerable to fire.
Throughout Game of Thrones, the White Walkers become increasingly vital as the show races towards its conclusion. They threaten an entire continent and are the only enemy that can unite the warring Westeros and the Free Folk. The White Walkers’ powers include their ability to manipulate the weather, freeze anything they touch, and reanimate the corpses of fallen men into wights. They are also able to mark a person for pursuit and have the power to destroy the Wall. Despite their formidable powers, the White Walkers can be killed with Valyrian steel, and Arya Stark’s deathblow to the Night King with her Valyrian steel dagger not only turned the icy leader to powder but also caused his entire army to crumble into uselessness.
