The upcoming film, “The Hunt for Gollum,” is set to explore the journey of the iconic character Gollum between the events of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogies. With Andy Serkis returning to the role of Gollum and serving as the director, fans are eagerly anticipating the story that will unfold. The film could focus on Gollum’s captivities in Mordor and Mirkwood, as well as his importance in the One Ring’s history.

Gollum’s life takes place in the Third Age of Middle-earth, with the War of the Last Alliance against Sauron marking the beginning of this era. The kidnapping and torture of Gollum by the Nazgûl and his subsequent capture in Mordor are crucial events in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. After being tortured, Gollum is released by Sauron, who believes the creature might still be drawn to the One Ring.

The film may explore Gollum’s journey between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, including his travels to Mordor, where he is captured by Sauron’s forces and tortured. Subsequently, Gollum makes his way north toward the Shire, but is captured by Aragorn and taken to Mirkwood. The events leading up to Gollum’s stay in Mirkwood are detailed in the Lord of the Rings card game and may provide clues about the plot of the upcoming film.

The story could overlap with the events outlined in Tolkien’s source material and the card game, featuring Gandalf putting together a mission to hunt Gollum and uncover what is happening in Middle-earth. A fan-made YouTube short about Aragorn’s quest to find Gollum and take him to Mirkwood has been removed due to a copyright complaint by Warner Bros. Entertainment, but is now available online, offering hints about the plot of the upcoming film.

“The Hunt for Gollum” could work as a Middle-earth version of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, serving as a story that leads into the classic Lord of the Rings trilogy. The film might feature the Rangers of the North, with Aragorn being a key character, as well as the Silvan Elves of Mirkwood, potentially returning characters like Legolas and Thranduil. With its rich lore and charming characters, “The Hunt for Gollum” promises to be an exciting addition to the Middle-earth franchise.
