The Awakening in Paris: ‘Interview with the Vampire’ Season 2 Episode 2

A Still From Interview With the Vampire (Via IMDB)

Season 2 of “Interview with the Vampire” continues to unfold as Louis de Pointe du Lac shares his story with journalist Daniel Molloy in Dubai. As the interview progresses, Daniel becomes more entangled in Louis’ recollections, going into his past with Armand, a long-time lover and vampire. Their conversation takes an unexpected turn as they arrive in Paris, where they meet the Théâtre des Vampires, a group of vampires who have mastered the art of deception.

In this episode, Claudia, Louis’ companion, attempts to paint a picture of contentment, but Louis’ uncertainty is palpable. When Armand joins the conversation, Daniel senses a united front from Louis and Armand, but things change as Louis’ emotions regarding Lestat begin to surface. Armand and Louis engage in an intimate conversation over cigarettes, discussing their feelings for Lestat. Meanwhile, the coven invites Claudia to join them for a hunt, as she has proven herself worthy of the privilege.

As tensions rise between Daniel and Louis, Armand’s presence becomes more prominent, alternating between interrupting or intervening in the conversation. Armand advises Louis to keep his emotions about Lestat hidden from the rest of the coven. Daniel uncovers that Armand and Louis were both intimate with Lestat after their discussion turns to the dramatic backstage portrait reveal.

As the coven and Daniel continue to explore the Théâtre des Vampires, Daniel starts to prod at painful spots again, particularly after Louis recounts his memory of reading Lestat’s letter. Louis turns the pain back on Daniel by forcing him to revisit fond memories of his ex-wife, Alice, before Daniel is snapped back to the present. A tantalizing tease for upcoming episodes is set in motion as Daniel discovers new memories, making it unclear who is truly interviewing whom.

In this episode, we are introduced to the charming performances of Ben Daniels as Santiago, and Assad Zaman and Jacob Anderson as past and present Armand and Louis. The series continues to seamlessly integrate Sam Reid’s Lestat into the narrative. Catch new episodes of “Interview with the Vampire” Season 2 on Sundays, available to stream on AMC+.
