After 29 years, the iconic Detroit cop Axel Foley is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. The highly anticipated sequel, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” is set to premiere on Netflix on July 3, 2024. The film marks the fourth installment in the popular comedy franchise, starring Eddie Murphy reprising his role as Axel Foley.
The film follows Foley as he returns to Beverly Hills to team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals (Judge Reinhold and John Ashton) to uncover a conspiracy. The story explores the cultural contrast between Detroit and Los Angeles, with Foley still having the same sense of wonderment when walking down Rodeo Drive.
Directed by Mark Molloy, a newcomer to feature films, Molloy brings extensive commercial directing experience to the project. Molloy has worked with major brands such as Apple, Go Daddy, and Nissan. Murphy and Jerry Bruckheimer, the original producer of the franchise, are producing the film alongside Chad Oman and Melissa Reid.
The cast also includes Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Luis Guzmán, among others. The script comes from Will Beall, a former LAPD officer and screenwriter behind Aquaman and Gangster Squad. The film has officially been rated R for “language throughout, violence, and brief drug use.”
