The Rise of Chloe Guidry: A Star in the Making

A Still From Under the Bridge (Via IMDB)

The upcoming Hulu series, Under the Bridge, has garnered attention not only due to its well-known actors, but also the impressive performance of newcomer Chloe Guidry. Guidry plays Josephine ‘Jo’ Bell, a teenager who is part of a group linked to the brutal murder of 14-year-old Reena Virk in a small Canadian town in 1997. Despite her limited credits, Guidry brings depth and honesty to her role, showcasing her remarkable talent in bringing Jo’s complex character to life.

Guidry started acting at the age of six and has eight other credits to her name, including roles in Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser and the horror film The Park. Without a plethora of high-profile roles, creator Quinn Shephard was drawn to Guidry’s unique ability to portray Jo’s mean-girl persona, which belies her kindness in real life. Guidry herself noted that Jo had many layers, and she was drawn to the role’s vulnerabilities and complexities.

Guidry’s nuanced performance allows Jo’s emotions to shine through, even when she’s attempting to hide behind a tough-girl exterior. Her character’s troubled past, marked by her mother abandoning her and her stepfather’s abuse, is expertly woven into her performance, making her character’s actions relatable and heartbreaking.

In recent episodes, Jo learns of her friend Kelly’s involvement in Reena’s murder, and Guidry’s face conveys the character’s horror. Like on many occasions, Jo must bottle up her feelings to survive. A less talented actor would struggle to capture Jo’s nuances, but Guidry’s portrayal of every boastful rant and show of arrogance is imbued with the undertones of a scared, lonely teenager.

Guidry proves that even without extensive credits, an actor can still deliver a breathtaking performance. Her future in acting looks bright, and her role in Under the Bridge is sure to make her a name to watch in the industry.
