Jennifer Love Hewitt has hinted at her potential return to the role of Julie James in Universal’s upcoming legacy sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer. The actress, known for her portrayal of Julie in the original 1997 film and its 1998 sequel, expressed both excitement and apprehension about revisiting the character that catapulted her to fame.

In an interview with ET, Hewitt disclosed that there have been preliminary discussions about her reprising her iconic role, although nothing has been confirmed yet. She admitted feeling “honestly terrified” at the prospect of returning to Julie James but expressed gratitude for the possibility.

Despite her nervousness, Hewitt conveyed her excitement about portraying a “grown-up” Julie James, highlighting the character’s evolution over the years. With the experience and perspective gained from motherhood and years in the industry, she emphasized the power and confidence she brings to the role.

While the involvement of Hewitt and co-star Freddie Prinze Jr. (who played Ray Bronson) remains uncertain, Universal has slated the legacy sequel for release on July 18, 2025. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, known for her work on Thor: Love and Thunder and the black comedy Do Revenge, the film’s villain and storyline are still under wraps.

Despite the mystery surrounding the plot, Hewitt teased that whoever the antagonist may be, they “won’t stand a chance” against Julie James and her formidable presence. With her dedication and enthusiasm, fans can anticipate an electrifying return to the iconic horror franchise.
