Dakota Johnson was recently seen wearing her engagement ring, dispelling rumors that she had ended her engagement with fiancé Chris Martin.
The Cha Cha Real Smooth actress, 34, was spotted in Malibu, Calif., on Friday, Aug. 16, enjoying time with friends Jeremy Allen White and Blake Lee. Johnson was dressed in an oversized tan coat and jeans, with her emerald engagement ring visible on her left hand.
This sighting follows speculation that Johnson and the Coldplay frontman, 47, had called off their engagement. However, on the same day the photos were taken, a representative for Johnson confirmed that the couple remains “happily together.”
Johnson and Martin were last seen together in June when Johnson attended the Glastonbury Festival to support Martin during Coldplay’s headlining performance.
“They’ve had ups and downs, but now they’re definitely back on,” a source told at the time, noting that the couple is “going strong.”
The relationship between Martin and Johnson began in 2017, three years after Martin and his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow “consciously uncoupled.”
Johnson first wore the emerald ring on her left hand in December 2020, although her engagement to Martin wasn’t officially confirmed until March 2024.
“[They] got engaged years ago but were in no rush to get married,” a source close to the couple told at the time.
Johnson and Martin prefer to keep their relationship private despite their public lives, though they have occasionally spoken about each other and attended each other’s events.
In March 2023, Martin mentioned Johnson during an appearance on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast, sharing how she introduced him to a SubPac—a device that allows people with hearing impairments to feel concert vibrations.
“Dakota, my partner, gave me one as a gift because she saw someone online experiencing whatever they are experiencing with this,” Martin said, explaining how the SubPac connects to the bass and enhances the concert experience for those with hearing impairments.
Martin continued, “So we started using it and it’s been so amazing and it should get better and better. We have 10 or 20 now of those packs. So if you’re hearing impaired, we have an area where you put on the pack and you can feel the show.”
