Sony Pictures has revealed the first teaser for 28 Years Later, the much-anticipated sequel to Danny Boyle’s iconic zombie apocalypse series.
The teaser opts for an enigmatic approach, featuring largely black visuals accompanied by eerie Morse code audio and brief glimpses of a desolate island connected by a narrow land bridge.
Other unsettling imagery includes statue-like figures that appear to be crucified zombies, crimson skulls, and contamination symbols in vivid red.
Adding to the mystery, the teaser’s YouTube upload does not include a title or description, but its connection to the film was confirmed when it was shared via the official 28 Years Later account on X.
Internet detectives have speculated that the island depicted in the teaser might be Lindisfarne in Northumberland, a location that would make strategic sense as a refuge during a zombie outbreak.
According to the official synopsis, 28 Years Later takes place well after the events of 28 Weeks Later, as the Rage Virus resurfaces. A group of survivors must navigate a world once again overrun by hordes of the infected.
Here’s a closer look at the island featured in the teaser:
In a thrilling return, Cillian Murphy reprises his role from the original 28 Days Later (2002). He leads a stellar ensemble cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding. Alex Garland, the writer of the original film, has also returned to collaborate on the screenplay alongside Boyle.
Notably, 28 Years Later was reportedly filmed back-to-back with its sequel, 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple. This follow-up is directed by Nia DaCosta, with Boyle and Garland teaming up once again as writers. Murphy is also slated to star in this continuation of the saga.
28 Years Later is scheduled for release on June 20, promising to bring fans back into the chilling world of the Rage Virus.
