Wedding Sting, A Thrilling Romantic Starring Anne Hathaway and Dave Bautista

“Marriage is a trap,” says the worst guy you know. But back in 2005, the concept took on an entirely different meaning when two FBI agents went undercover as a couple in a sophisticated sting operation.

The mission culminated in a staged wedding held on a yacht off the coast of Atlantic City, New Jersey. When the guests arrived at the “ceremony,” they were promptly arrested. Those guests, some traveling from as far as China, turned out to be part of an international smuggling ring.

It’s almost surprising that Hollywood hasn’t already turned this wild story into a movie or limited series multiple times. But now, at last, the first adaptation is officially underway.

Anne Hathaway and Dave Bautista are set to star in Wedding Sting. Naturally, the film will take some creative liberties with the true story.

The report describes the plot as focusing on two FBI agents with vastly different working styles who are forced to live together while carrying out the sting. Predictably, their initial clash leads to a grudging mutual respect.

Let’s take a wild guess: Hathaway will play the smart, methodical, level-headed agent, while Bautista takes on the role of the impulsive, action-first, think-later enforcer?

The project is being developed by Jonathan Tropper, the writer of This Is Where I Leave You and creator of TV shows like Banshee, Warrior, and the upcoming Your Friends And Neighbors. Joe and Anthony Russo’s production company, AGBO, is producing the film for Amazon MGM Studios.

It seems the intriguing real-life operation is finally getting the Hollywood treatment it deserves—and with Hathaway and Bautista leading the charge, it might even live up to its cinematic potential.
