After announcing the birth of their third child, Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared some details about how he spent his time at the hospital during the special occasion.
On Sunday, January 12, just after the start of the new year, Patrick and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, welcomed their second daughter, Golden Raye, into the world.
During a press conference, Patrick provided insight into the memorable day and revealed that he managed to squeeze in some playoff preparation while Brittany was preparing for the birth.
“I’m just supporting, you know. Brittany crushed it,” he said, praising his wife. “It’s been cool to welcome another baby girl into our family and see how my other kids react to her.”
Patrick also shared a lighthearted detail about the hospital experience: “It was cool that football was on TV when I was in the hospital, so I got to watch a little bit.”
He then added with a smile, “Brittany was kind enough to let us watch football as she was getting ready to give birth to our second daughter.”
The couple are already parents to 3-year-old Sterling Skye and 2-year-old Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III. Patrick expressed gratitude for being able to fully experience the birth of his third child, thanks to the Chiefs clinching the top seed in the AFC and earning a first-round playoff bye.
“It was cool that we got the bye,” Patrick told reporters, as noted by KSBY. “It just allowed me to really focus on being at the hospital and being in the moment.”
Reflecting on the significance of the event, he continued, “It’s a special moment that a lot of dads and moms have experienced, and you don’t forget about that stuff. So I was glad I was able to be there and support in the best way I can.”
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid later joked about parenting, saying, “Once you have three, four and five are easy.” Responding to the lighthearted comment, Patrick, whom Reid described as a “great” father, quipped, “I’m good with three for right now.”
