Lukas Gage is committed to keeping audiences on their toes — both in front of the camera and in his personal life.
The 29-year-old actor stars in the new AI-horror comedy Companion as Patrick, one of six friends who gather at a remote lake house for a weekend getaway.
What starts as a peaceful retreat filled with board games and drinks quickly spirals into chaos when Josh (Jack Quaid) reveals to his robot girlfriend, Iris (Sophie Thatcher), that she is not human.
Gage’s character, meanwhile, is part of a seemingly innocent couple with Eli, played by Harvey Guillén. The pair unexpectedly find themselves caught up in the unfolding madness.
While the concept might sound straightforward, the creative minds behind Barbarian aim to deliver more than a simple narrative. What emerges instead is a surprising and emotionally intense story exploring love, abuse, and the potential dangers of AI advancement.
Though Gage first gained attention for his roles in young adult dramas like Tagged, Veronica Mars, and Euphoria, he has recently transitioned to more mature roles in psychological thrillers like Companion, while also appearing in shows such as White Lotus and You. In 2024, he will star in the chilling Smile 2.
While Gage is flattered by being dubbed a modern-day “Scream King” as his career expands, he stresses that his primary goal is to choose projects that feel elevated and that have a meaningful message.
“I think, consciously, I gravitate toward scripts or filmmakers and writers that I think are doing great work,” Gage shared exclusively with Us Weekly in their latest issue. “It doesn’t really necessarily matter what genre … It just depends on the story we’re telling.”
Gage confesses that he’s had a “sick, twisted little mind” since childhood, when he would make zombie movies with his friends in his basement.
He feels that darker projects might be his “inherent calling,” but that won’t stop him from jumping at the opportunity to star in this year’s highly anticipated romance People We Meet on Vacation.
Gage’s acting versatility is undeniable — he’s equally at home playing a Cat King in Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives as he is portraying a rising bouncer in Jake Gyllenhaal’s Roadhouse remake. Off-screen, Gage has made an impact by speaking his mind on topics ranging from his personal life to the state of the entertainment industry.
