Following the release of yesterday’s poster, Prime Video has officially unveiled the first trailer for G20, an action thriller starring Oscar and Emmy Award-winner Viola Davis as a no-nonsense President of the United States.
Directed by Patricia Riggen (Miracles from Heaven, The 33), the film is based on a screenplay by Noah and Logan Miller (White Boy Rick), with revisions by Caitlin Parrish and Erica Weiss (The Red Line). Andrew Lazar produces under Mad Chance, alongside Davis and Julius Tennon through JuVee Productions.
G20 Movie Synopsis
The film’s synopsis reveals: “When terrorists seize control of the G20 Summit, American President Taylor Sutton (Davis) must rely on her diplomatic expertise and military background to protect her family, her fellow world leaders, and global stability.”
Viola Davis Takes on a Powerful New Role
Davis first appeared as Amanda Waller in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad before reprising the role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. She also voiced Waller in the Creature Commandos animated series and is set to lead the upcoming Waller series, expected to begin production later this year.
Throughout her career, Davis has portrayed numerous powerful women, but stepping into the role of the President of the United States presents a unique challenge. She’ll face a formidable adversary in The Boys star Antony Starr, known for playing the ruthless Homelander.
G20 Action Thriller
Reflecting on the role, Davis shared: “It was an interesting challenge. You don’t realize how much playing the President influences your decisions. I often found myself thinking, ‘I can’t do that—I’m the President.’
It’s a delicate balance: being human, a mother, a wife, and someone with emotions and vulnerabilities, while also embodying the immense responsibility of the presidency.
It made me question certain actions, even in an action film—like, how many people can I take down in one scene? I imagine real Presidents face similar dilemmas, constantly walking that fine line.”
