Legally Blonde Prequel Series

Amazon Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel series has officially found its young Elle Woods.

Lexi Minetree has been cast in the lead role of Elle, a series that will explore Elle Woods’ high school years before she embarked on her journey to Harvard.

Reese Witherspoon, who originally portrayed Elle Woods, announced the casting via Instagram. “Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods!” Witherspoon wrote.

“After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet @leximinetree.”

According to the official series logline, Elle will chronicle Elle Woods’ formative high school years, highlighting the experiences that shaped her into the beloved character audiences first met in the original Legally Blonde film.

This marks Minetree’s first leading role in a television series. She has previously appeared in shows like Law & Order: SVU and TV movies such as The Murdaugh Murders, Crowdsource Murder, and The Paramedic Who Stalked Me. She is represented by Stewart Talent, Framework Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Amazon first greenlit Elle in May 2024. The series was created by Laura Kittrell, who also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries.

Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, and Lauren Kisilevsky are executive producers through Hello Sunshine, with Marc Platt also producing. Amazon MGM Studios will handle production.

The original Legally Blonde was a box office hit, earning over $140 million worldwide following its 2001 release.

Its sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde, premiered in 2003, followed by a direct-to-video third film in 2009, where Witherspoon served as a producer but did not reprise her role. The story was also adapted into a Broadway musical in 2007, earning multiple Tony and Drama Desk nominations.
