To account for how contemporary audiences might interpret some of the older films in their catalog, Disney Plus began incorporating content warnings into its classic movies. However, the streaming service has now opted to modify the language of these advisories.
These warnings have been attached to some of Disney’s most renowned films, including Fantasia, Dumbo, Peter Pan, and Lady and the Tramp. Disney has decided to “update the language” of these advisories. Longtime subscribers may recall that these content warnings were brief, twelve-second messages that played before select titles on Disney Plus.
Since the platform’s launch in 2019, the wording of Disney Plus advisories has undergone multiple revisions. The original disclaimer simply stated that the films were being “presented as originally created” and, consequently, “may contain outdated cultural depictions.”
In 2020, this warning was significantly expanded to the following:
“This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures,” read the advisory introduced that year. “These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now.

Disney Plus Content Advisory
Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it, and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.”
The message also emphasized Disney’s commitment to “creating stories with inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the globe.”
Now, in 2025, Disney Plus has revised the advisory once again. The updated version reads: “This program is presented as originally created and may contain stereotypes or negative depictions.”
This change appears to coincide with broader internal shifts at Disney, including replacing its “Diversity & Inclusion” performance factor with “Talent Strategy” and substituting the “Reimagine Tomorrow Initiative” with a different internal website. Given these developments, it remains to be seen what further adjustments may follow.
