New Jeans Attempt To Sever Ties With Ador Blocked By South Korean Court

A South Korean court ruled on Friday, approving an injunction against K-pop group NewJeans’ attempt to sever ties with its record label, Ador. The decision prevents the group from engaging in commercial activities without Ador’s consent.

In the latest development in the ongoing legal battle between the two sides, a panel of judges at the Seoul Central District Court reaffirmed Ador’s rights as NewJeans’ managing agency.

This ruling could significantly impact the group’s plans to release new music, schedule independent appearances, and secure personal advertising deals.

The five members of NewJeans initially announced their departure from Ador in November, citing allegations of mistreatment. Following the split, the group rebranded as NJZ. However, Ador responded by filing a lawsuit, seeking to enforce its contractual rights over the members.

NewJeans to Challenge the Ruling

Despite the court’s decision, NewJeans plans to appeal the ruling, maintaining that Ador continues to treat the group unfairly.

“We believe that the decision did not fully take into account the complete breakdown of trust the members have experienced toward Ador,” NJZ said in a statement.

“We did not have sufficient opportunity to fully present the factual background to the court.”

Ador Welcomes Court Ruling

Ador, which denies allegations of mistreatment, expressed satisfaction with the court’s ruling, calling it a confirmation of its exclusive management status over NewJeans.

“With our status as NewJeans’ exclusive agency now legally affirmed, we are fully committed to supporting the artists going forward,” Ador stated. “We eagerly anticipate meeting with the artists for a heartfelt conversation at the earliest opportunity.”

Upcoming Performance Despite Ongoing Dispute

Both Ador and NewJeans confirmed that the group will still perform at the ComplexCon festival in Hong Kong this weekend, despite the legal tensions.

The feud between NewJeans and Ador has captivated fans since August 2024. The conflict centers around Min Hee-Jin, the group’s executive producer.

Ador’s parent company, Hybe, removed Min from her role as Ador’s chief executive last year. In response, NewJeans publicly demanded her reinstatement. After Hybe refused, the group decided to leave Ador, igniting a high-profile dispute that continues to unfold.
