As Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies has announced, the cast of the upcoming spin-off series The War Between the Land and the Sea has had a readthrough for all five episodes. The spin-off, which is set to focus on UNIT, led by Kate Stewart, played by Jemma Redgrave, and will see the return of the Classic Who alien, the Sea Devils. This news comes after Davies confirmed the spin-off at San Diego Comic Con earlier this year, where the synopsis was revealed.
According to the synopsis, when a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT steps into action as the land and sea wage war. The series will feature the triumphant return of the Sea Devils, classic Doctor Who villains first seen in 1972.
Joining Jemma Redgrave in the series are Russell Tovey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Alexander Devriet. The War Between the Land and the Sea is expected to be a thrilling addition to the Whoniverse, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release on Disney+ or BBC iPlayer.
