Katherine Renee Kane has addressed her decision to leave FBI after its seventh season. “It was time to go through new creative opportunities,” Kane, 32, shared on Wednesday, August 21. “I’m looking forward to what’s next and wish the show continued success.”
Kane, who joined FBI in its fourth season as Special Agent Tiffany “Tiff” Wallace, will be exiting the show in an upcoming episode of season 7. CBS has not yet commented on Kane’s departure or how Tiff will be written out of the series.
In a previous interview with Us Weekly, Kane discussed her character’s arc following the dramatic season 6 finale. In that episode, Tiff and her team were involved in the death of the suspect responsible for their colleague Trevor Hobbs’ earlier death.
“I view her journey in two main ways,” Kane exclusively told in May. “There’s the trauma and guilt she feels over Hobbs’ death, and then there’s the unresolved issue for her and the team, which is the terrorist still on the loose. I believe she finds resolution for both.”
Kane suggested that Tiff found some closure following Trevor’s death. “She felt a sense of responsibility. Jubal [Jeremy Sisto] had encouraged her to step into more of a leadership role,” Kane explained.
“She was excited about taking on that responsibility and felt proud that her superiors believed in her. Losing someone she cared about immediately after taking on that role was particularly heavy for her.”
In the season finale, Tiff was the one who shot Trevor’s killer despite her colleagues questioning whether there was a clean shot.
“It was certainly difficult for her when her teammates questioned her integrity,” Kane said. “However, it also served as an opportunity for self-reflection, which wasn’t entirely unjustified.”
Kane viewed this moment as a chance for Tiff to demonstrate her integrity and trustworthiness.
In her conversation with Us, Kane hinted that Tiff would likely continue to deal with guilt at the start of season 7.
“I’d like to see her soften up and find more ease in her life,” Kane teased. “While her drive and passion for her work are commendable and beloved by fans, I want to explore more facets of her character as a woman.”
