Marge Gunderson, played by Frances McDormand in the Coen Brothers’ Fargo (1996), is a subversive and refreshing take on the traditional cop character. Her resourcefulness, cynicism, and determination make her a hero that is both engaging and relatable.

Clarice Starling, portrayed by Jodie Foster in Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs (1991), is a complex and multifaceted hero. Her determination, fear, and fallibility make her a vulnerable yet strong character that audiences root for.

Pam Grier’s Jackie Brown in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown (1997) is a complex and nuanced heroine who embodies the spirit of 1970s Blaxploitation cinema. Her resourcefulness, cunning, and determination make her a true successor to the iconic characters of that era.

Also included are Maximus Decimus Meridius, played by Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000), who is a classic movie hero, fiercely committed to his cause and driven by a sense of justice. Rocky Balboa, portrayed by Sylvester Stallone in Ryan Coogler’s Creed (2015), is a symbol of hope and perseverance, fighting against the odds to realize his dreams. Imperator Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), is a powerful and unyielding hero who will stop at nothing to protect those she cares about.

Finally, there is Bruce Wayne/Batman, played by Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns (1992), whose nuanced and complex portrayal of the Caped Crusader showcases the actor’s range and depth. These heroes may not be perfect, but they are iconic, inspiring, and unforgettable – a testament to the power of cinema to capture our imaginations and inspire us to be our best selves.
