The Australian adaptation of the popular TV show “The Office” has taken the prime spot in the most-watched titles on Prime Video in Australia, achieving the biggest opening weekend viewership for any Australian title. The show premiered on Prime Video in several countries a couple of weeks ago and has been praised by critics for its effectiveness in blending nostalgia with cultural relevance. The show follows the everyday lives of workers in a packaging company, Flinley Craddick, which is the location of the Australian version of the show. The story revolves around managing director Hannah Howard (Felicity Ward), who makes a decision to close the office and send everyone to work remotely due to financial difficulties. However, she promises that the branch will make a profit in a month and a half to keep the “family” together.

Critics have pointed out that there is room for improvement, with the series receiving a modest 67% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Nonetheless, long-time fans of the original “The Office” will easily recognize characters that are versions of Jim Halpert, Pam Beesly, Dwight Schrute, and others. The show’s creators, Jackie van Beek and Julie De Fina, have made sure to incorporate cultural relevance and nostalgia into the show, effectively making it stand on its own. The enormity of the show’s success in Australia likely points to a swift renewal for Season 2, and fans can already gear up to check out the next iteration of the story.

Amazon has not made any official announcements regarding the renewal of the show, but fans can look forward to exploring more global adaptations of “The Office”. In fact, a Mexican version of the series, La Oficina, has been announced and is set to release on Prime Video in the future. The Australian adaptation has landed in the top 10 most-watched titles in 102 countries and was the #1 title in countries like New Zealand and Singapore. In Australia, the show remains the #1 show on Prime Video even ten days after its debut.
