Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, stars of The Conjuring franchise, are reflecting on their long-standing onscreen partnership as they wrap filming for The Conjuring: Last Rites.
This installment marks the end of their roles in the series, a bittersweet milestone for the duo who have portrayed Ed and Lorraine Warren since 2013.
Wilson, known for his humor, remarked on their enduring connection, saying, “Our fake marriage has lasted longer than many real ones.”
Wilson shared his sentiments on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the journey. “As the sun sets on the Conjuring franchise…I am overwhelmed,” he wrote.
“There aren’t enough thanks to go around for the thousands of people who’ve contributed to the making of these films…and the millions who’ve watched them.” He offered a heartfelt message to Farmiga, his onscreen wife: “What to say? I adore you.”
He also acknowledged director Michael Chaves, who previously helmed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) and The Nun II (2023), and now directs Last Rites, set for release next year.
Wilson praised Chaves for steering the franchise forward, calling him a talented filmmaker. He also gave a nod to franchise creators James Wan and Peter Safran, key figures in crafting the Conjuring universe.
On her Instagram, Farmiga shared a framed “wedding photo” of their characters, reminiscing about their journey. “Roundabout 5,000 days ago, this guy and I signed a WB contract and said ‘I do’ to embodying Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Today, he wraps. I have another 12 hours of laughter and insanity with him, and then he’ll walk off set, peel off sweat-soaked demonologist garb, shave off his sideburns, flash that dazzling smile, and bid our fake marriage adieu,” she wrote.
“It was a match made in heaven, PWilz. A hell of an era. Here’s to 12 years.”
Wilson and Farmiga first brought Ed and Lorraine Warren to life in James Wan’s The Conjuring (2013), a film that became the cornerstone of a globally successful horror franchise.

The series expanded into a shared cinematic universe, including spin-offs like the Annabelle trilogy and The Nun films, the latter starring Farmiga’s sister, Taissa Farmiga, as Sister Irene.
The Road to Last Rites
While plot details for The Conjuring: Last Rites remain mostly under wraps, director Michael Chaves confirmed that the events follow directly from the post-credits scene in The Nun II.
In that scene, Ed and Lorraine receive a call about a possessed priest, Father Gordon (Steve Coulter), setting the stage for their final supernatural confrontation.
“This is going to be that final chapter,” Chaves previously told. He added that the possession of Maurice, a pivotal event in the Conjuring universe, ties the overarching narrative together. “It was in the first Conjuring, and it’s definitely a key element in the entire universe.”
Legacy and Impact
James Wan, who launched the franchise and directed the first two Conjuring films, commented on Wilson’s Instagram post, reflecting on the legacy of the characters.
“The characters that you and Vera have breathed life into will endure forever,” Wan wrote. “Not every day do we get to create this kind of cinematic legacy. Thank you, buddy. Forever indebted to you. Though Connery taught us to never say never!”
As Wilson and Farmiga bid farewell to their iconic roles, their decade-long contribution to the horror genre leaves a lasting impression.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is set to hit theaters in 2024, closing out an era of supernatural storytelling that has impressed audiences worldwide.
