Riot Temporarily Disables Omen in VALORANT Following Game-Breaking Bug

Valorant

Riot Games temporarily disabled the agent Omen in VALORANT on June 2, 2025, following the discovery of a critical bug affecting gameplay integrity.

The bug, which involved Omen’s Dark Cover ability, allowed players to enter an unintended camera mode, granting them visual and audio access to enemy locations, effectively enabling real-time wall hacks. According to eTrueSports, The exploit was first brought to light by Wolves Esports coach Fayde, whose video demonstration circulated rapidly on social media.

Developer Response

In response to the severity of the issue, Riot Games announced via its official VALORANT X account that Omen would be removed from all game modes starting at 5:15 PM PT on June 2.

“Due to this bug allowing Omen to unintentionally see enemies as they appear on your teammates’ view, we’ll be disabling him starting from 5:15 PM PT until further notice,” the company stated. Riot also confirmed it was working on a fix, with the goal of reintroducing Omen to the agent pool within 24 hours.

Timeline and Fix Status

The timeline from the bug’s discovery to resolution was relatively swift. Fayde’s video highlighting the exploit was posted on May 31. By June 2, Riot had acted to disable Omen in all modes, including Competitive, Unrated, Deathmatch, and Practice.

Omen – Valorant

A patch was deployed the following day, and by the evening of June 3, Riot confirmed that the issue had been resolved and that Omen had been reinstated.

Implications for Competitive Play

While Omen’s pick rate in public matchmaking remains moderate, his strategic value in professional VALORANT play is significant. His utility as a controller agent is a staple in team compositions across multiple maps.

At the time of the incident, professional teams were preparing for Stage 1 of the VCT Masters Toronto, making Riot’s prompt resolution crucial to avoid disruption to competitive practices and match schedules.

The swift action taken by Riot Games demonstrates its continued commitment to maintaining competitive integrity within VALORANT.

Although the bug had the potential to seriously affect both casual and professional play, its short lifespan minimized broader impact. Riot has not issued further comment beyond the agent’s reactivation, but players and teams are advised to report any similar issues as part of ongoing live service stability.
