The Garfield Movie, which has grossed over $51 million domestically, has surpassed Furiosa’s $50 million in 10 days. The underperformance of Furiosa, which had a nearly $170 million reported budget, has sent shockwaves through the industry. Meanwhile, The Garfield Movie has defied poor critical reception to recover its modest $60 million budget.
Although both movies had decent second-weekend holds, Furiosa is unlikely to stage a miraculous comeback, while The Garfield Movie will continue to draw younger crowds until Pixar’s Inside Out 2 debuts.

On the other hand, writer-director John Krasinski’s PG-rated family film, IF, has delivered a robust third-weekend hold of 32%, generating just under $11 million and overtaking Furiosa for the number two spot. The film has taken its running domestic total to an estimated $80 million, ensuring that it passes the coveted $100 million mark domestically by the end of its run.
The summer’s sole blockbuster so far, 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, has continued to deliver, grossing an estimated $9 million this weekend and pushing its running domestic total to $140 million.
