For seven seasons, audiences have watched as Dr. Shaun Murphy, played by Freddie Highmore, built his career as a surgeon at the fictional San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. The Good Doctor, based on the South Korean series of the same name, premiered in 2017 and has become a hit for ABC. With its finale set to air in May 2024, the show has aired over 100 episodes. The characters of the show are a key part of its success, each with their own distinct personalities and storylines.

Marcus Andrews, played by Hill Harper, was a plastic surgeon and former president of St. Bonaventure. He was initially skeptical of Shaun’s abilities, but his character development showed a more likable side. Andrews was a skilled doctor who put his patients first, making him a formidable opponent in the hospital’s hierarchy. His career ambitions often got in the way, but ultimately, he was committed to helping those around him.

Morgan Reznick, played by Fiona Gubelmann, was a resident at St. Bonaventure who initially doubted Shaun’s skills. Coming from a family of artists, Morgan struggled with her own insecurities and eventually opened up her home to Park after his divorce. Her relationship with Park was tumultuous, and her competitive nature often made her difficult to like. However, beneath her tough exterior, Morgan was a good person who cared deeply for those around her.

Dr. Neil Melendez, played by Nicholas Gonzalez, was an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at St. Bonaventure. Like some of his colleagues, Melendez initially questioned Shaun’s abilities, but he became one of his biggest supporters. Melendez’s charming personality and great sense of humor made him a joy to be around. As a skilled doctor, he held his staff to high standards and always put patients first.

Dr. Audrey Lim, played by Christina Chang, began as an attending trauma surgeon and later became Chief of Surgery at St. Bonaventure. Struggling with the implications of being partially paralyzed after being stabbed, Lim had to relearn how to navigate the hospital. Her tough demeanor and independence made her a formidable opponent, but beneath her tough exterior, she was compassionate and caring.

Dr. Alex Park, played by Will Yun Lee, was an attending general surgeon at St. Bonaventure. With 15 years of experience as a police officer, Park had seen the best and worst of humanity. His calm and relaxed demeanor made him an excellent doctor, and he was always willing to help his younger colleagues. Park’s competitive side often emerged in his interactions with Morgan, but he was a caring doctor with a heart of gold.

Shaun Murphy, played by Freddie Highmore, was the main character of The Good Doctor. As an autistic with savant syndrome, Shaun struggled to navigate the complexities of human relationships. However, he was an extremely skilled doctor, dedicated to his job and driven to further his career. With his wife, Lea, and son, Steve, Shaun’s life off the hospital was just as busy as his life as a doctor.

Dr. Aaron Glassman, played by Richard Schiff, was a neurosurgeon at St. Bonaventure and previously served as the hospital’s president. As a mentor and father figure to Shaun, Glassman was a constant advocate for the young doctor. His own struggles with brain cancer and related health issues made him a complex and relatable character.

Dr. Claire Browne, played by Antonia Thomas, was a surgical resident at St. Bonaventure and one of Shaun’s biggest advocates. With a difficult relationship with her mother, Claire struggled to find her place in the hospital. Her intelligence, selflessness, and dedication to patients made her a beloved character, and her return to the hospital in Season 7 surprised fans.

Lea Dilallo, played by Paige Spara, was Shaun’s next-door neighbor who eventually became his wife. Lea’s kind and caring nature conflicted with Shaun’s more intense personality. While she made mistakes, including changing Shaun’s patient report scores, Lea always had his best interests at heart.

Asher Wolke, played by Noah Galvin, joined the show in Season 4 and was a surgical resident who worked under Shaun. An openly gay man who rediscovered his faith, Asher struggled to reconcile his sexuality with his Jewish heritage. His early introduction to the show was met with fanfare, and his eventual tragic death in an antisemitic attack shocked fans.
