Tiffany Haddish returns as Detective Danner in Season 2 of The Afterparty, bringing a fresh dynamic to the role as she joins a new cast of characters. According to Haddish, playing with this new group of people is like being at the park and playing new games with new people, allowing her to have a fun and exciting experience. Despite no longer being a detective, Danner is still driven by her love for solving mysteries and helping others, making it a “happy little side hustle” for her.

In a memorable episode, Haddish got to objectify Michael Ealy in a flashback scene, which she was excited about from the start. She describes the experience as “living out a dream” and says that her expectations were met. The scene was a lot of fun to shoot, with Haddish and Ealy getting messy and having a great time. When asked if she tried to hurt Ealy during the scene, Haddish jokes that she didn’t, but also notes that she tried her best to follow his directions.

As an investigator, Danner is drawn to solving mysteries not for financial gain, but because it’s her way of helping others. She’s happy to be a civilian, but still has detective tendencies and gets to use her skills to solve the crime. For Haddish, playing the role of Danner is a chance to bring a unique perspective to the character and to explore her love for solving mysteries. She notes that the show’s lighthearted take on the whodunnit genre is something that sets it apart, and that her enthusiasm and energy bring a lot of joy to the role.

The Afterparty, available to stream on Apple TV+, is a comedy series that features a new murder mystery each season, with a unique twist. In Season 2, the team is investigating a murder at a wedding, and Danner is thrilled to be back on the case. Haddish’s comments about the show and her character are a great representation of the lighthearted and fun tone of The Afterparty. As a comedy series that is known for its lighthearted take on the whodunnit genre, The Afterparty is a must-watch for fans of the show and comedy mystery fans in general.
