National Cinema Day: Cinema Magic Unites Moviegoers on a Single Day

National Cinema Day

The Cinema Foundation is bringing back its National Cinema Day for a second year, and it’s expected to be an even bigger and better celebration than its inaugural event. On Sunday, August 27, over 3,000 locations across the country will participate in this special day, offering movie tickets for a maximum price of $4. This is a fantastic opportunity for viewers to catch up on the summer’s excellent films and new releases, including “Gran Turismo”, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”, and classic re-releases like “Jurassic Park”. Last year’s event was a huge success, drawing in over 8 million moviegoers and generating over $24.3 million.

The event aimed to celebrate the power of movies and bring audiences out to the theaters for a day full of films from the hottest indie titles to the biggest blockbusters. This year’s event promises to be just as exciting, with major theater chains like AMC and Dolby Cinema participating. The Cinema Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in March 2022 by NATO (National Association of Theatre Owners), is dedicated to promoting, growing, and protecting the cinema exhibition industry. In addition to National Cinema Day, the foundation partnered with Fandango for National Popcorn Day earlier this year to make the complete theater experience with concessions more affordable.

National Cinema Day

The foundation’s goal is to promote the theatrical experience and provide research on moviegoing. National Cinema Day will showcase a wide range of films, from new releases like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” to classic re-releases like “Jurassic Park” and “Beauty and the Beast”. Families will have plenty to enjoy with new films like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and a sing-along version of “The Little Mermaid”. The event is a perfect opportunity for viewers to catch up on the many excellent films that have graced the theaters this summer.

According to Jackie Brenneman, President of The Cinema Foundation, the event is all about celebrating the magic of the big screen and preserving this experience for years to come. “We want to bring people together to experience the communal aspect of moviegoing,” she said in an official statement. So mark your calendars for August 27 and head to your local theater to celebrate National Cinema Day. With over 3,000 locations participating, there’s something for everyone.
