In this article, we are going to talk about the upcoming Bollywood movie named Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. The movie will be launched viz Netflix streaming platform on 12th August 2020. The movie has been directed by Sharan Sharma and has been produced under Dharma Production and Zee Studios.

The movie is based on the life of Indian Airforce pilot Gunjan Saxena and how she defeated the odds to become the first female fighter pilot in the Indian Airforce. The movie highlights the challenges and the stereotypical societal obstructions that are thrust upon women to prevent them from reaching their dreams freely. Here, Gunjan’s struggles underline those challenges and when it becomes too difficult for her, she reaches out to her father for help.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl Release Date

The movie was supposed to release in the theatres on 13th March 2020. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the release was pushed to 24th April 2020. But then again due to the severe increase in the no. of cases of the coronavirus, the theatric release schedule was canceled, and instead, it was planned to release viz. the Netflix streaming service. Netflix acquired the distribution rights on 9th June 2020 and announced that the movie is going to release on 12th August 2020.

Expected plot of the movie

The movie is based on the life of Indian Airforce pilot Gunjan Saxena and how she defeated the odds to become the first female fighter pilot in the Indian Airforce. The movie highlights the challenges and the stereotypical societal obstructions that are thrust upon women to prevent them from reaching their dreams freely.

Here, Gunjan’s struggles underline those challenges and when it becomes too difficult for her, she reaches out to her father for help. Even in the trailer, it is shown that prejudice against women exists even in the army where women are termed as weak and non-eligible for the army’s purposes. Gunjan’s brother played by Angad Bedi, is also not on the same page with her being a fighter pilot in the airforce as she is a woman and always discourages her from pursuing her dreams. Despite her hard work and preparation, she is not accepted and respected as a female pilot. The only person who stands beside her and guides her is her father whose role is played by Pankaj Tripathi.
