The Quintessential Quintuplets first originated as a Japanese manga series and was serialized in the Weekly Shonen Jump from August 2017 to February 2020. The manga was written and illustrated by Negi Haruba. The manga was adapted into an anime series with its first season airing in Japan from 10th January to 28th March 2019. IMDb has rated the anime at 7.2/100, and Crunchyroll at 8.3/10.
The story of the Quintessential Quintuplets deals with a high school student named Futaro Uesugi who is an academically gifted student but leads a struggling life. His mother has died and he is lonely. His father has incurred a heavy debt which falls upon him to clear. An opportunity presents itself as the children of the rich Nakano family gets transferred to his school.
Futaro’s skills don’t go unnoticed and he is quickly hired by the family as one the highest-paid tutor. To his disappointment, all the quintuplets that he teaches are absolutely abysmal in their academic performance and have scored some bad grades. The quintuplets are also furious about having a tutor like Futaro and want his immediate resignation.
But Futaro’s academic brilliance and gifted skills again pull him out of trouble as his diligent tenacity seems to have put a good impression on the quintuple sisters who gradually move to the path of self-improvisation and develop an interest towards studying. Coincidentally all five of them also seem to develop a crush on Futaro which as the story unfolds, eventually leads to marriage of Futaro to one of the sisters.

A trailer has been released by AnimeTV for the Quintessential Quintuplets Season 2.
It is being said that season 2 of the anime will be strongly dealing with Fuatro falling in love with one of the quints. Futaro starts dreaming about a girl where he meets her on a school field trip to Kyoto. Her name was Rena(similar to his deceased mother’s name, Reina). Itsuki, one of the quints, once asked him why he studies so hard. He replied by saying that it was this girl in his dreams who motivated him to study hard.
Futaro only knows about Rena as The Girl from the Photograph. He had observed Rena buying five charms for some odd reason during the field trip. To this Itsuki cites that once she also pulled out an old charm that she either bought or was given five years that came from Kyoto. This whole mess seems to have startled Kyoto as to Itsuki being that girl.
Problems start getting into Futaro’s life as he gradually gets close to the quints. Things go so far that two sisters Nino and Itsuki get into a quarrel and slap each other. Both of them flee the house and it falls upon Futaro to solve the matter and bring them home. He tries his best to reconcile but the matter turns worse. Itsuki turns up in Futaro’s house and starts living in it and won’t return until the other quint apologizes.
At this moment, Rena enters Futaro’s life for a brief period and asks him how his life is going. He then describes his issues to her to which Rena takes back her photograph which was with Futaro and bade him goodbye forever. Futaro was shocked by the way he was dumped in water but buckles up and gets down to solve the problems among the quints.
After he solves their matter and brings the quints back together, he realizes that he never should’ve taken the job of a tutor in that house and hence decides to resign from the job. He talks to their father and says that he is incompetent to fulfill the role of a tutor but also lashes out at the father for being a lousy and irresponsible parent who couldn’t look after the quints properly. The father of the quints gets infuriated at this blame and banishes Futaro from the house forever.
The quints miss him terribly but the matter of utmost importance is ahead as the final exams are knocking on the door. But this time it isn’t the test of academics. It is the test of love. Three of the quints have already fallen for Futaro and their mind games will drive Futaro crazy during a family visit to a hot spring resort. Events will mount up to a confession from one of the quints and will bring a moment where Futaro will realize that he had begun falling in love with one of the quints. But for that to take place, you have to keep an eye out for The Quintessential Quintuplets Season 2.
