Rachel Zegler, who has already gained significant attention for her upcoming role as Snow White in Disney’s live-action remake, appears to be taking on another iconic character. On her Instagram, Zegler posted a cryptic image featuring the letter J, accompanied by emojis of a heart and a dagger.
The location tagged was Verona, the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. At the same time, Kit Connor, known for his roles in Heartstopper and His Dark Materials, shared a similar photo with the letter R. Together, these images hint at a new Romeo and Juliet project, with Zegler and Connor seemingly set to portray the titular characters.
Although details about this Romeo and Juliet project are still under wraps, it’s clear from the social media teasers that Zegler and Connor are involved. Whether this project will be a movie, series, stage play, or another form of entertainment is not yet known, but the pairing of the two actors for such iconic roles has generated considerable excitement.
Rachel Zegler has been on a remarkable career trajectory since her breakthrough performance in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake of West Side Story, which earned her a Golden Globe Award. She subsequently starred in the Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, a role that won her the title of Action Movie Star of the Year at the People’s Choice Awards. Zegler also appeared in the DCEU film Shazam! Fury of the Gods in 2023 and headlined the disaster comedy movie Y2K, which premiered at SXSW in March.
Zegler’s role as Snow White was initially set for a 2024 release but has been pushed back to 2025. In the meantime, fans can look forward to seeing her in Spellbound, an animated musical film coming to Netflix later this year. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is available for digital rental or purchase. Zegler’s next appearance as Snow White will hit theaters on March 21, 2025.
As she continues to build her impressive portfolio, the prospect of Zegler taking on Juliet in a new Romeo and Juliet adaptation adds another exciting chapter to her rapidly rising career.
