Piglet Takes Center Stage in Another Stand-Alone Slasher Movie

Piglet Takes Center Stage in Another Stand-Alone Slasher Movie
Piglet | Walt Disney Animation Studios

It seems the horror parody trend involving A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh characters is continuing with yet another film, this time focusing on Piglet. Produced by SpookHouse MediaWorks and Strange Films Studios, the movie titled “Piglet” blends the beloved character with elements of classic slasher films like “Friday the 13th” and “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.”

As with previous entries in this genre, “Piglet” will be made on a relatively small budget, emphasizing practical effects synonymous with the horror genre’s budget end. The film aims to create a nightmare-inducing experience while staying true to the practical effects roots of the slasher genre.

The plot revolves around Piglet, who lives in the remote Appalachian hills, the son of a once industrious butcher. When fame-hungry millennials trespass onto his land and slaughter Piglet’s beloved pig, they incur the wrath of a vengeful killer. Piglet then dispatches the trespassers one by one in a brutal display of power.

Directed by August Aguilar, known for “The Gifted,” and starring Celeste Blandon, Jasper Hammer, and Brian Bremer, “Piglet” promises to deliver straightforward bloody mayhem typical of the slasher genre.

While the initial success of “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” capitalized on the novelty of using characters associated with Disney in a horror setting, it remains to be seen how long this trend can sustain audience interest. With several new slashers expected to arrive soon, the viability of repeating the same idea may be tested sooner rather than later.
